Take 4: Words That Are Brand Names

Language is always growing and changing. It’s alive and I love that. It means we never run out of new words to learn and use.

But how do we get new words in our dictionary?

Well, one way is when a product or brand name becomes so popular that we use that instead of the word for the item, even when we mean a different brand.

Please pass the kleenex. (tissues)
I don’t know that movie; I’ll google it. (search on the internet)
I need to tweet about that. (post about it on Twitter)
Do you want to play ping pong? (table tennis)
Let’s have a popsicle first. (ice lolly)

In fact, there are dozens of trademarks that we use every day and we probably don’t even know about it.

Watch me tell Abbey about some trademarks that are used every day.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could all have our names in the dictionary?

What would yours mean?
